For the first time in a while, I feel as if I am finally finding “wins” again. I am starting to see growth in the business side of writing and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel in that regard. Over the past few months, I started taking classes and courses on the business side of things. It was a good chunk of change, but I needed to know what I was doing, and could no longer afford to be aimless about it. With that, education has resulted in building out the platform, setting up merchandise, and creating much better launch templates for future books. No, I cannot sustain my life with my writing yet but I am seeing the path there so, so clearly. Thank you for joining me on this journey. It is truly a dream and joy to be doing this. I am so excited about this, that I began a podcast to teach other indy authors how to also do this and build a long-term career. That will start releasing at the end of the month. I can’t wait to serve others.
Lastly, this might not resonate as much for those of you without kids, but my daughter and I have developed a new hobby. I jokingly call it real-life Pokemon—she calls it “bug-bug [hunting].”
Every day we go out searching for new and rare bugs that we haven't seen before, and it is the best. Seeing the world through her eyes has created a magical realism that I get to live with every day
Just yesterday we found the most extraordinary caterpillar! A Pipevine swallowtail. It was
black with the most vivid orange spots (you should look it up as a butterfly). I wish there were a Pokedex for bugs (yes. . . a Buga'dex). If you know of one, let me know asap! Currently, we—as in me—are hunting the Luna Moth. I’ll let you know when we find it.
That's a wrap for the August 2023 Update! Have a kiddo with a Bug-Bug fascination? Let me know about your rare finds, even better, send a picture and I'll make a Bug-Bug dedicated gallery! You can reach out to me at izaic@izaicyorks.com
Live long, and May the Force be with you!
